Jazz
Concours
After a period in the Surinam band Fra Fra Sound, he started his own
quintet, that was almost immediately awarded at the NOS/Meervaart Jazz-concours.
Armando Cairo continues: For a long time I tried to combine painting
and music, but because of the success of the band, I havent produced
a lot of paintings lately. In a way that hurts, art is one of my great
loves. But it is inevitable; once youre successful in music, your
cant just leave it at that. Next year for instance
I want to record an album, and that takes a lot of energy.
Coming Thursday the sextet will play, amongst some old repertoire, a
great number of nrew and revised arrangements.
The formation furthermore consists of Jos Driessen (trumpet), Jeldrik
Ijland (alt-saxophone), Joost Buis (trombone), Wilbert de Joode (double
bass) and Matin van Duynhoven (drums).
